Kwaba Bidi staff share their feelings about NAIDOC Week on milestone 50th anniversary
This week is one of the most important on the calendar for Kwaba Bidi.
NAIDOC Week began on Sunday, celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
This year’s celebrations are extra special, with 2025 marking the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week.
We asked our team on this milestone occasion what NAIDOC Week means to them. This is what they said.
"I do love NAIDOC Week. Our community all comes together as one." – Ails
"We take our kids down to the NAIDOC Week events - to get them more connected to culture, to show them our culture." - James
"I remember events at school for NAIDOC Week. It's good that there's a week for it. It makes me feel proud." - Anon.
"Celebrating culture with mob. This one’s about empowering young people, to be proud of who they are, to know their culture." - Renee
"A lot of my family aren't here but I like to spend time with family for NAIDOC. Last year I went back to my country to go camping and the uncles went hunting. It's about time with family." - Siahn
"Family. Love. Culture. Attending NAIDOC events to show the kids and share our culture." - Anon.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”, which seeks to celebrate the achievements of the past while looking forward to the
future, guided by strong young leaders, our vision for community and the legacy of our ancestors.
Our staff will be out and about in the community this week to celebrate, attending events all across the South West region.
We welcome you to celebrate with us as we work towards a moorditj future.
