What is Foster caring?

Foster care provides temporary homes for children and adolescents in need of safety and stability.  Opening your home to a child can make a positive difference in their life, by offering something many of us take for granted
... a safe home and caring environment where they can thrive.

Foster carers come from a variety of backgrounds. You can be working or retired, single, married, in a same-sex relationship, and may or may not have children of your own. The primary goal of foster care is to ensure the physical, cultural, emotional, and social well-being of the child until they can safely return home.

How does being a Foster Family Work?

There are lots of questions first time foster families can have about caring for a child in care. Kwaba Bidi has compiled a list of answers to frequently asked questions to help you with some of the queries you may have.

Short Break Care

Most people think that to become a foster carer, you need to commit to full-time care over a long period. That is not the case.

Kwaba Bidi gives foster carers the option to take part in our Short Break Care program, where you will provide respite for our other carers for a short period, such as one weekend every fortnight or month. This can provide you with an option to be a foster carer while fitting in with you and your family’s needs.
