Closing the Gap: Helping Aboriginal Families Stay Strong with Kwaba Bidi
Kwaba Bidi is proud to grow its services to help Aboriginal families stay strong and keep kids connected to culture and community. Our aim is to give our koorlangkas a brighter future by reducing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care.
A report from Australia’s Productivity Commission shows that the number of Aboriginal kids in care hasn’t gone down. But Kwaba Bidi is working hard to change this. By offering early support and culturally safe services, we aim to keep families together and prevent kids from needing out-of-home care.
Many families face tough challenges because of things like intergenerational trauma, unfair systems, and lack of culturally appropriate services. Kwaba Bidi is here to help by giving families the support they need to stay strong.
Since starting our Out of Home Care service with foster carers in 2024, Kwaba Bidi has worked to keep kids connected to family, culture, and community. We’re now excited to offer new programs that will support families and stop problems before they happen.
One key project is the Regional Family Support Hub, run with Key Assets Australia as part of the Department of Communities’ Regional Service Model. This hub will support families and make sure our koorlangkas are well cared for.
We are here to provide culturally safe services that strengthen families and keep children connected to their moort and community.
But when kids can’t stay at home, we’re also here to support foster families to give our koorlangkas a loving and safe home.
